Meta Platforms has taken a new step toward integrating cryptocurrency into the creator economy by introducing payouts using USD Coin. This system allows content creators to receive their earnings directly in their crypto wallets instead of relying on traditional bank transfers. The payments are processed on the Solana and Polygon blockchains, both known for fast transactions and low fees. The main goal is to make international payments easier and more efficient. Instead of waiting days for bank transfers, creators can now access their funds within minutes. Lower transaction costs are also a major advantage, especially for creators in developing countries.
The system is powered by a partnership with Stripe, which handles the payment infrastructure and compliance requirements such as tax reporting. Currently, the feature is being tested in selected countries like Colombia and the Philippines before expanding globally. This move marks Meta’s return to the crypto space after its earlier Libra project failed. However, this time the company is relying on an existing stablecoin rather than creating its own digital currency.
